Photographers – what’s the most important thing you can do on a shoot? Be a director to your senior by posing them! They need it…..they WANT it! Using these tips to confidently pose your senior is key to a successful senior shoot!
Focus on posing your senior
Have you ever been in their shoes? On the front side of the camera? Did you immediately wonder “OMG how do I stand, what do I do with my hands?” It feels awkward to be on that side of the camera. That’s why it’s our job to mold them into the best poses. And tell them how amazing they look.
Because they will. They will look amazing! All because you guided them to flattering poses. You’ll see your clients relax once they know you’ll direct them into the poses that are going to look the best for them. They will relax knowing they are in good hands….someone who knows HOW to move them into the most flattering poses for THEM!
Best tips for posing your senior – How to help them feel comfortable
- Show them each pose exactly and have them mirror the pose.
- Remind them that some poses may feel awkward …but LOOK amazing
- Walk them through styling tips and approve their outfits ahead of time
- Talk them through every step of the way… and never, ever forget to verbally let them know how amazing they look in those poses. This is SO very important! They can’t see themselves. Wouldn’t you want to know that you were “doing it right?” Positive affirmation goes a long way in helping them feel comfortable, and it’s a win-win…because them becoming more comfortable only results in better and better images!
