Shooting somewhere different can really spark your creative energy, and add something different to your portfolio! I’m sure you have your tried and true go-to locations, but mixing it up every now and then is great, for the senior of course, but also YOU! Destination shoots may just be the perfect way to move out of a creative rut.
Here are some tips if you want to offer destination shoots:
Market your destination offers
Your seniors don’t know what they don’t know. So, post on your stories that you are open to shooting destination sessions! You’d be surprised how many people are wanting destination shoots for their senior photos. There may be a family headed for vacation and want yo auto meet them there for a senior shoot. And if no one reaches out right away, you can save your story in your Instagram highlights and someone may reach out later!
Scout locations in other areas
It may feel scary to go to a location you’ve never been to before, but that is the power of the internet! You’ll definitely want to use Google Maps, satellite view, to scout your new locations. Searching on Pinterest and Google are also your friend!
Check for permits at your destination
Additionally, you’ll want to check to see if there are any permits necessary where you are shooting. It would be disastrous if you ended up in a place you are not allowed to shoot at freely. Double and triple check for all locations you are wanting to shoot at in your travels!
Travel Costs
Lastly, don’t forget to add in your travel costs to your session price. Depending on where you’re headed, you’ll want to add a travel fee for your client.
Bonus Tip
A huge bonus to your senior, is that their images will be different from all of her friends senior portraits! They will stand out, and they will thank you for it!
